Deadline: May 9, 2019 at 1.30 PM IST

Venue: Senwes Park, Potchefstroom

Pitch report

It is the same pitch that was used in the first match. Sana Mir opened the bowling with Fatima Sana and dismissed half the South African side within 8 overs. Two of Sana’s wickets were lbw, one bowled, and one catch. Most batters played for the spin and were eventually deceived. However, the pitch will wear down by Thursday. Runs will come thick and fast, and if South Africa win toss, they will avoid batting first.

Probable XI for South Africa: Lizelle Lee, Laura Wolvaardt, Andrie Steyn, Sune Luus (c), Mignon du Preez, Chloe Tryon, Marizanne Kapp, Sinalo Jafta (wk), Shabnam Ismail, Masabata Klaas, Tumi Sekhukhune

Probable XI for Pakistan: Nahida Khan, Sidra Ameen, Javeria Khan, Bismah Maroof (c), Nida Dar, Aliya Riaz, Umaima Sohail, Sana Mir, Sidra Nawaz (wk), Fatima Sana, Nashra Sandhu

Preview

Pakistan’s score in the first match suggests that it was a T20I. They chased down South Africa’s 64-run target in a mere 14.4 overs. But it is only after checking out South Africa’s score you realise it was an ODI. Pakistan shot them down to their second lowest score, 63 all out, in ODIs. Sana Mir took 4 for 11 in 6 overs. 9 off 11 South African batters scored in single digits. Had it not been for du Preez’s 18 and Tyron’s 21, South Africa would been humbled for much low score.

Pakistan lost openers Nahida and Sidra for 14 runs, but the stalwarts Javeria and Bismah made sure that was the last time South Africa heave a sigh. They wrapped up the show with 8 wickets and 212 balls in hand.

With that win, Pakistan jumped above South Africa in the ICC Women’s Championship table. Both have played 13 games each, with Pakistan having won 7 compared to South Africa’s 6. If Pakistan win the remaining 2 matches, they will dethrone India from the third positions. Whether they will continue their domination, is a question only time can tell.
