Pitch Report for England vs India, 2nd ODI Match at Lord’s
Since the 2019 World Cup final, only one limited-overs game has been played at Lord’s. Pacers took 18 of 20 wickets in an even battle between the bat and ball between Pakistan and England in 2021. With some clouds looming over London, expect the fast bowlers to take the centre stage yet again.
Probable Playing XIs for England & India
Probable XI for England: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (c & wk), Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Craig Overton, David Willey, Brydon Carse, Reece Topley
There are reports that Virat Kohli is yet to recover from the groin injury that left him out of the first game.
Probable XI for India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna
Power Players for England vs India, 2nd ODI
In England in the format, Rohit Sharma has the most 50-plus scores to his name by a visiting player. Against them, he averages 52. During his breathtaking 76* on Tuesday, he provided bonus fantasy points for maintaining a strike rate of 131. If anything, the numbers speak volumes of his importance in fantasy cricket.
Talking about stats, Jasprit Bumrah’s 6 for 19 were the best bowling figures by an Indian in and against England. Be it bowling in the corridor of uncertainty or in the blockhole, he put up a stellar show.
In his last five ODIs against India, Jonny Bairstow has scored two hundreds and a fifty. Not to forget the consecutive hundreds he smashed last week in the fifth Test at Birmingham.
Smart Picks for England vs India, 2nd ODI
The naught at Kennington Oval was a rare failure for Joe Root. India would have to produce an encore to dismiss him cheaply yet again. In addition, Root’s numbers at Lord’s may discourage India. In 8 ODIs, he has collected 365 runs at an average of 52, including a hundred and two fifties.
The same can be said for Jason Roy. Playing an incoming, full-length delivery away from his body cost him his wicket. Before the duck, he had scored a hundred and a fifty, and against India, he averages 48.
Mohammad Shami strikes at 27 in ODIs. In his last 10 games, he has taken a four-wicket and three three-wicket hauls. In England, he has taken 25 wickets in 9 games.
Shikhar Dhawan did not mind playing a second fiddle amidst the Rohit show. He remained unbeaten on 31 off 53 including four fours. His stats in England make a great reading: 1,132 runs at 66.2 comprising four hundreds in 20 ODIs.
Ben Stokes may have scored in the negative last game in fantasy sports, but he remains a useful pick due to his all-round abilities. He has scored five fifties and bagged 13 wickets in 18 games.
Hardik Pandya had to watch his teammates work a magic show. He went wicketless in the only four overs he bowled and did not get to bat either. His recent form keeps him in the list of players to watch out for.
While Bairstow is likely to be a popular choice in the wicketkeeper category, you may ponder upon the likes of Rishabh Pant and Jos Buttler. Both have been scoring runs in the hundreds.
None of the English bowlers were successful, but David Willey, as was the case in the T20Is, made amends with the bat. He played a handy knock of 21 before deciding to scoop the rampaging Bumrah.

Match Preview
The fearless approach that England pursued in the Test has been followed by India in white-ball cricket. India’s batters and bowlers have been equally devastating, working well in tandem. With 1-0 ahead in the series and having won the T20Is, India will be brimming with confidence. Meanwhile, England will have to be mindful of the mindless slogs that they played in the first game.
