The pitch looks good and has very little grass on it. The batters will feast on the bowlers if conditions remain dry. If not, expect some movement for the pacers.

Venue: The Rose Bowl, Southampton

Pitch and conditions

Given the number of matches washed out of late in England and Ireland, not many would stress on how the pitch is. Weather is the topmost concern. Only 19 overs were bowled in the first ODI, and conditions look bleak in Southampton as well. Pray to whatever gods you believe in, that rain does not play spoilsport again.

That being said, the pitch looks good and has very little grass on it. The batters will feast on the bowlers if conditions remain dry. If not, expect some movement for the pacers.

The average first and second innings scores read 256 and 206 respectively. The highest total registered here is 359 for 3 by New Zealand against England.

My XI: Jos Buttler (wk), Joe Root, Babar Azam, Jonny Bairstow (c), Eoin Morgan, Imam-ul-Haq, Ben Stokes, Imad Wasim, Shaheen Afridi, Jofra Archer (vc), Hasan Ali

There were few unexpected changes in the playing XI in the first ODI. England left out Jason Roy and Moeen Ali at the expense of James Vince and Joe Denly. In the practise session, however, Roy and Moeen were seen grinding it out.

On the other hand, Pakistan played Asif Ali in the absence of Shoaib Malik despite having the veteran Mohammad Hafeez at their disposal. With Malik back, Pakistan may fancy drafting him in the team.

Before the rain washed out the game, England picked two wickets: Archer removed the dangerous Fakhar, while Plunkett had the stylish Babar caught behind. Amidst the terrific bowling, Imam-ul-Haq displayed his tenacity, remaining unbeaten on 42*.
