Pitch Report

In the previous match at Dubai, a spinner took a three-wicket haul, a pacer sniped up a four-wicket haul, and three batsmen managed a half-century. To put things into perspective, the pitch has all the ingredients to produce another thriller.

Power Players

Marcus Stoinis is a charming fellow who likes playing pranks on his teammates. When playing cricket, he is a different personality altogether. He switches on the Hulk mode and rescues his team from trouble. In the eliminator, he first laid a strong foundation with a quick knock of 38 runs and then changed the game on its head with bowling figures of 3 for 26. As a matter of fact, he has been Iyer’s go-to man, be it bowling the last over or batting at any position. More importantly, he is back at the top – the position where he scores heaps of runs in other T20 Leagues.

To be the highest run-scorer in a team that boasts of T20 veterans is some feat. Ishan Kishan has scored 483 runs at an average of 53.6. So consistent he has been of late that his lowest score in the last six innings read 25. Against Delhi, he has scored 28, 72*, and 55*.

After scoring three consecutive fifties against Mumbai, Shikhar Dhawan scored ducks in the last two matches against them. To make things more interesting, he has scored three ducks in the last five innings; the other two scores read 54 and 78. That said, he is the second-highest run-scorer of the season and looks in great touch despite blowing hot and cold of late.

Above all, this is the contest between two ever-improving fast bowlers of the generation. Although Jasprit Bumrah has taken 2 wickets fewer than Kagiso Rabada, his 27 wickets have come in 14 matches compared to Rabada’s 29.

Smart Picks

Shreyas Iyer’s form has been in a downward spiral of late. His last five innings read 7, 25, 7, 12, and 21. Not that he has looked out of touch but instead has been finding new ways to get out.

Suryakumar Yadav’s lowest score in the last five matches is an unbeaten 12. Two of his four fifties this season have come against Delhi.

Trent Boult (22 wickets) and Anrich Nortje (20 wickets) have been playing the roles of second fiddle to perfection. They made sure their teams don’t heavily rely on Bumrah and Rabada, that they too can dictate terms.
