Pakistan’s old warhorses
Pakistan boast of experienced players in their line-up and the result may as well be different than what we witnessed in the T20I series.
By her standards, Javeria Khan was ordinary in the T20Is, throwing away her wicket in all three matches. Her numbers, however, in ODIs speak volumes of her abilities. In 92 matches, she has scored 2,407 runs at 30.8, including two hundreds and 14 fifties. She will be opening the innings with Nahida Khan who has five fifties in 48 matches.
Pakistan have their captain Bismah Maroof at No. 3. She was the highest run-scorer for Pakistan in the T20Is. She scored at more than run a ball.
Had it not been for Nida Dar’s 53 off 40 in the last T20I, Pakistan would have faced another defeat. She took the bull by its horns and smashed five fours and two sixes. Along with Aliya Riaz, she stitched a partnership of 67 runs.
Sana Mir is Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker in ODIs. From 112 matches, she has scalped 136 wickets, comprising six four-wicket hauls. She will continue being the vital cog in the wheel.
While Diana Baig will share the new ball with Kainat Imtiaz, Nashra Sandhu will try to catch the opposition batters in her slow left-arm spin.
Probable XI for Pakistan: Nahida Khan, Javeria Khan, Bismah Maroof (c), Nida Dar, Sidra Ameen, Aliya Riaz, Sana Mir, Sidra Nawaz (wk), Diana Baig, Nashra Sandhu, Kainat Imtiaz
Taylor back at helm for West Indies
Barring her 42-run innings, Kycia Knight failed to provide impetus at the top. However, it was her opening partner Deandra Dottin who did the damage control. With 158 runs at 79, Dottin was the highest run-scorer in the T20I series. In fact, no other batter could score runs in three figures in the series.
Stafanie Taylor is back to the squad and at the helm. She is the highest run-scorer for West Indies in ODIs, having amassed 4,282 runs at an impressive average of 43.6. She has hit 5 centuries and as many as 51 half-centuries. She will manage the middle order comprising the in-form Chedean Nation and Shemaine Campbelle. Meanwhile, Merissa Aguilleira will continue keeping wickets.
Shakera Selman was the highest wicket-taker for West Indies in the T20Is. She rocked the Pakistani batters with both pace and bounce.
West Indies will attack with two spinners in Anisa Mohammad and Afy Fletcher.
Probable XI for West Indies: Kycia Knight, Deandra Dottin, Shemaine Campbelle, Chedean Nation, Stafanie Taylor (c), Merissa Aguilleira (wk), Chinelle Henry, Afy Fletcher, Anisa Mohammad, Shakera Selman, Shamilia Connell
