Power Players for the Match

Alex Hales played a composed inning of 58 off 41. It was the slowness of the pitch that compelled him to control his aggression and play according to the situation. Overall, he has been in terrific form of late: he scored 374 runs at a strike rate of 194 in the English T20 League.

Sandwiched between Hales and Root’s brand of cricket was the attacking Colin Munro. He eased off the pressure by smashing 36 off 22 including fives fours and two sixes. In his last five competitive games, he has scored two thirties and as many twenties.

Just when he looked good for a big score, Faf du Plessis, holed out at mid-on off a cutter, scoring 15 off 11. He took the field after the Indian T20 League, where he scored 468 runs at 31 – the most for Bangalore.

Daniel Sam’s two of three wickets came at the death. His change-in-pace deliveries often produce false shots. In addition to his varied bowling, he can pack a punch with the bat. He registered the highest score of 71 in the English T20 League.

Smart Picks for the Match

Joe Root toyed with the field and ran hard between the wickets. Only 10 of his 34 runs came in boundaries. He may not bat like a modern-day six-hitter, but he has the smarts to collect runs in any condition and situation.

Adam Lyth won the Player of the Match for smashing 51 off 30 which consisted of six fours and a six. In the English T20 League, he blasted runs at a strike rate of 177.

Amidst the heavy run-making, Dawid Malan walked back for 8 off 4, after smashing two fours. Of late, he has been an all-or-nothing player, displaying a mix of good and ordinary scores. The approach of going hell for leather has been affecting his consistency.

Adil Rashid gave a run a ball, including the important wicket of Phil Salt. The wickets in England have been favourable for spinners this summer.

Dwayne Bravo took a wicket at the death. We have read this countless times. A veteran of 543 T20s is now mastering the 100 format.

David Willey complimented his 2 for 24 with a fiery knock of 29 off 21 including two sixes and a four. He has been more effective with the bat lately. He has only two scores below 20 in his last 10 professional white-ball games.

Superchargers vs Trent Match Preview

Trent’s top four are scary: it’s a combination of aggression and solid technique. On the other hand, Superchargers are studded with quality all-rounders. That being said, given the way games have turned out in the ongoing English summer, bowlers will play a key role. The conditions otherwise have been conducive for the batters.
