IPL 2025 Groups and League Structure

Just like it has been since 2022, this time around as well the ten teams have been divided into two groups. Each team will play the others in their own group twice as well as one designated opponent from the other group twice while facing the other four sides from the other group only once in the league stage.

Group A Group B
Chennai Mumbai
Bengaluru Gujarat
Rajasthan Delhi
Punjab Hyderabad
Kolkata Lucknow

There will be a total of 74 matches played across the season. There will be 12 double-headers i.e. days on which two matches will be played. The afternoon games will begin at 3.30 pm while the evening games will begin at 7:30 pm. While Kolkata and Bengaluru will be the first two teams to begin their campaign in the tournament on the 22nd of March, Gujarat and Punjab will have to wait till the 25th of March for their campaign to start as they will be the last two teams teams to get off the mark, which they would do in the world’s biggest stadium, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The teams that finish in the top four at the end of the league stage would then qualify for the playoffs. The top two teams at the end of the league stage will get two chances to make it to the Final. The group stage will end with a match on 18th May between Lucknow and Hyderabad in the former’s home stadium. The playoffs will begin on 20th May with the Qualifier 1 along with the Eliminator being played in Hyderabad before the tournament moves to Kolkata for the last two matches, the Qualifier 2 and the Final. The Final of the TATA IPL 2025 this time will be played on 25th May. Mumbai and Chennai, the two teams who have won the tournament a record five times, will meet twice this year for a clash that has been termed as the El Classico of the league by fans. Chennai will host Mumbai on 23rd March while they will travel to play at the Wankhede on April 20th. The teams had met only once last year.

IPL 2025 Venues

The tournament will be played in 13 different stadiums across the country. Defending champions Kolkata will play at their home ground Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Bengaluru will be back at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium for their home games in front of their fans who they call the 12th Man army. Chennai will play in front of the sea of yellow that the MA Chidambaram becomes during every home game of the franchise. Gujarat will get the biggest stadium of the world, the Narendra Modi Stadium, for their home games. Hyderabad will look to replicate their great form in front of the Orange Army at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, also called the Uppal stadium. Next to the Arabian Sea, the Wankhede would once again host all matches for Mumbai. Rajasthan will play their two home games at Guwahati apart from the six games that they will play at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. Similarly, Punjab too will play five of their games at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. The remaining three home games of Punjab will be played in Dharamsala’s Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. Delhi will begin their campaign playing in Visakhapatnam, which is their second home ground apart from the Arun Jaitely Stadium in the national capital. The team will play one more home game at Visakhapatnam.

While Kolkata will enter the tournament as the defending champion on account of winning the tournament last year for the 3rd time, all eyes will be on Mumbai and Chennai for the two teams, with five titles apiece, have shown that they know how to win the tournament. Teams like Rajashthan, Gujarat and Hyderabad would aim to add to their solitary trophy in the trophy cabinet. Lucknow, Punjab, Bangalore and Delhi meanwhile will start the tournament hoping that they are able to break the jinx finally this year and earn themselves their maiden TATA IPL trophy.
