Who has the edge?
Both sides are batting-heavy. Devine, Athapaththu, Rodrigues, Sciver, Harmanpreet, Mandhana, Bates, Taylor: you name them, you get them. Given the track is tailormade for the batters, runs will come thick and fast.
However, it all depends who bowls better. If Supernovas have Poonam, Trailblazers have Goswami. At this point, it is difficult to deduce who has the edge.
Key battles
Harmanpreet vs Goswami: This is a battle between India’s senior pros. The belligerent Harmanpreet will be against Jhulan Goswami, the highest wicket-taker in women’s ODIs. If the top order does a reasonable job, Harmanpreet will take her guard in the middle overs. Mandhana will have to make sure she preserves Goswami for Harmanpreet. Who will have the last laugh?
Devine vs Tahuhu: Devine has been in a terrific form this year, having scored three fifties in his last six international innings. She will be pitted against her teammate Tahuhu who took 7 wickets on India’s tour earlier this year. Both know each other’s weakness and will give their all to use them for the benefit of their respective teams.
Mandhana vs Poonam: Mandhana is at the third position in the ICC T20I Rankings for batters, while Poonam is at the second place for bowlers. It will be a risk to use Poonam in the powerplay, but given what has happened in the IPL, it won’t be a bad idea to attack right away with a wrist-spinner. Mandhana likes to attack – the best chance to make early inroads.
