Supernovas should thank Harmanpreet Kaur for the entry into the finals. The 16 runs that she collected, when they needed 19 off 6 against Trailblazers, made sure their net run rate does not read negative despite the loss. In the next match, Jemimah Rodrigues gave them the win they needed, scoring 77* off 48.
The credit, however, belong to their bowlers. In the first match, they restricted Trailblazers to 140 for 5 despite Smriti Mandhana’s resolute knock of 90. In the second, they choked Velocity with disciplined bowling. Poonam Yadav was the star of the show, taking 1 for 13 in 4 overs and strangling the opposition to 130 for 3.
Velocity, on the other hand, have been on the defensive. They lost 5 wickets in 7 balls when they needed a mere 2 runs. Thanks to Pradhan that they collected 2 runs off her first ball and ended the drama. Against Supernovas, they played for the net run rate over win. The target was reasonable if not massive. In a pursuit of 142 runs, they managed 130 for 3 and took the ticket to the final. Veda Krishnamurthy, who remained unbeaten on 30 off 29, later admitted to the fact that weren’t eyeining for the win.
Who has the edge?
Supernovas have explosive batters at their disposal. If they put up a colossal total, the defensive batting line-up of Velocity will find it difficult to up the ante.
Velocity have variety of bowlers in their armoury. Other than Rodrigues in the last match, they managed to keep all Supernovas batters on the back foot.
Top performers
Rodrigues is at the top of the batting chart, having scored 101 runs with a staggering strike rate of 150.7. Velocity’s Wyatt is at the third spot with 89 runs.
