Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen, Abhinav Manohar, Sachin Baby, Pat Cummins ©, Harshal Patel, Mohd. Shami Rahul Chahar and Jaydev Unadkat

Top Fantasy Picks from the Team

Abhishek Sharma – The Punjab dasher not only lit up the league last year but even went on to make an impact in India colors by smashing two T20I tons in the last 12 months. His red-hot form means that Hyderabad will rely on him to take them to big scores like 2024.

Heinrich Klaasen – The South African has been a revelation for Hyderabad and has been one of the most fearsome batters on the T20 circuit in the last three years. He also smashed 5 back to back ODI half centuries just ahead of the league and Hyderabad will hope that he carries the good form to the league as well.

Mohd. Shami – Despite missing the 2024 edition due to injury, Mohd. Shami remains a potent force with the ball in white cricket. He was the purple cap winner in 2023 and has taken more than 100 wickets in the last five years of his IPL career playing with multiple franchises. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar no longer in the Hyderabad side, Shami will have a big job on his hands.

Travis Head – Playing in the league after six years, Head got everyone talking with his breathtaking power hitting that saw him amass 567 runs at a strike rate of 173 in last year’s IPL. He continued in the same vein in the USA T20 league and has been in terrific form in multiple formats in the last two years. He will look to recreate the fearsome partnership with Abhishek Sharma at the top.

Nitish Kumar Reddy – The youngster was a revelation in the previous edition of the league and made it to the the teams of two formats for Team India on the basis of his good show in the league last year. In TATA IPL 2025, he will be expected to raise his game to the next level and contribute significantly with both bat and ball.

SWOT Analysis of Hyderabad

The team’s strength lies in its batting lineup and it’s very likely that under Cummins, they’d continue to be as destructive right from the word go in this season too. But there will be questions marks about the bowling unit’s ability to deliver as it’s an all new bowling attack with only Jaydev Unadkat being a continuation from the 2024 squad.

Strengths – The team’s top five is quite capable of replicating 2024’s form. The addition of Ishan Kishan to the batting lineup makes it even more interesting as it guarantees that there will be no let up even if either Head or Sharma gets out early in the innings.

Weaknesses – The team can struggle on the bowling front and would hope that Rahul Chahar takes care of things on the spin front. Chahar, however, didn’t have the best of outings in the last two seasons and if he is unable to deliver, the team would need to look at Adam Zampa to do the job.

The team can face an interesting dilemma in choosing their fourth foreign player as the other three names – Cummins, Head, Klaasen – pick themselves. With Brydon Carse ruled out, it would be interesting if the South African Wiaan Mulder can find a place in the XI.

Hyderabad Team in TATA IPL 2025

While they couldn’t lay their hands on the trophy, Hyderabad under their new skipper Patrick Cummins surely turned in the performance that took everyone by surprise in the previous year’s edition of the IPL. The attacking brand of cricket displayed by the team was unlike anything seen before and set a new template for T20 batting. Their explosive batting saw them break the record of the highest score in the league twice. Although it didn’t come good in the final and Kolkata easily overcame them, there is bound to be excitement about the team in the TATA IPL 2025.

The team retained the core of the 2024 batting unit ahead of the auctions but had to let go of two experienced bowlers in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan in the process. They instead bought Mohd. Shami in the auctions whose return to form after a long injury layoff augurs well for the franchise. They also added more firepower to the batting lineup by bringing in Ishant Kishan, who however, might not get to open the batting in the presence of Head and Abhishek. It will be interesting to see if the team would continue with their 2024 template of batting this year or whether the loss in the final will result in a sobered down version on display in 2024.

Brief History of Hyderabad

The league began with a team from Hyderabad which emerged winners in the 2nd edition of the tournament. That team, named Deccan Chargers, was dissolved in 2012 which led to a new franchise coming up with Hyderabad as their home base.

With a different name and different colors, the team proved to be quite successful in the initial few years of their existence and even went on to win the tournament in 2016, defeating Bangalore in the final. Post that, the team made it to the last four on multiple occasions and even made it to the final of the 2018 edition where Chennai defeated them. The team endured a few tough seasons where three captains were changed in three consecutive years.

However, the arrival of Daniel Vettori as coach and Patrick Cummins as the captain turned things around for the franchise as they reached the final of the 2024 edition in a dominant fashion, in stark contrast to their 2023 campaign where they finished at the bottom of the table.
