Top Fantasy Picks from the Team
Suryakumar Yadav – While his form after his ascendancy to India captaincy has declined sharply, he still remains one of the most reliable batters in the shortest format.
Hardik Pandya – The captain struggled in the 2024 edition but his form for Team India in the last 12 months with both the bat and the ball has been fantastic. What an in-form Pandya can do in T20s is something that we saw in Gujarat’s 2022 season where he led the team to a trophy.
Tilak Verma – The left hander might have missed out on being part of India’s T20 World Cup winning 2024 squad but has since then taken giant strides in becoming a lynchpin of the top-order. Labelled a future all format player by Rohit Sharma in his debut season and retained by the franchise ahead of the new season, this could be the season where he transcends from being a star batter to a superstar.
Jasprit Bumrah – While there might be concerns about his availability for the entire edition of TATA IPL 2025, he is bound to have an impact on the team’s fortunes in whatever matches he plays.
Trent Boult – The left-armer has been sensational in the powerplay for whatever franchise he turns out for and on a Wankhede pitch under lights, his swing will definitely test even the best of the batters.
Mumbai’s Schedule for TATA IPL 2025
SWOT Analysis of Mumbai
Mumbai’s TATA IPL 2025 squad looks quite extremely formidable. The management did quite well to address the issues ailing the franchise on the auction table and got personnel who will fill the gaps that were there last year.
Strengths – The team’s Indian core remains its biggest strength. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav are proven match winners and Tilak Verma has also joined them in the same league with his performances in the recent past.
Weaknesses – While the team’s pace bowling looks formidable on paper, there are concerns about the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah who has been already ruled out of the first few games. Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar has had a history of injuries as well and it would be interesting to see if he can last the season. Moreover, the injury to AM Ghazanfar after he was picked at the auction reduces the team’s spin options and they will have to rely heavily on Mitchell Santner who has had a mixed record in the league.
The team will also miss the services of their skipper Hardik Pandya in their tournament opener who was banned last year for slow over rate. While Rohit Sharma returned to form in ODIs in the Champions Trophy, his performances in the last few seasons opening the batting for Mumbai haven’t matched his reputation. In the last eight editions of the tournament, he has averaged only 26.45.
Mumbai Team in TATA IPL 2025
With 5 titles under their belt and one of the most influential Indians as their owner, Mumbai has been one of the biggest franchises in the league. However, The team’s glory has lost some sheen in the last few years since they’ve now gone four years without winning a trophy. Moreover, their last season was a forgettable one where they not only faced backlash over captaincy change but also finished at the bottom of the table.
However, the good thing for the team is that the sentiment has changed positively ahead of the TATA IPL 2025, which has much to do with Hardik Pandya’s performances for the Indian team in the last 12 months. The team not only retained its core ahead of the auctions but also announced that Pandya will resume as the captain. With a solid batting lineup already there, the team splurged out big bucks to strengthen their bowling attack and give Jasprit Bumrah the much needed support that he missed last year. Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar will be the fast bowling partners of Jasprit Bumrah while Mitchell Santner, who’s had a brilliant time with red ball, in India will also be one of the spin options for the team. The team will begin its campaign with possibly the most iconic fixture of the league when they go up against Chennai in their away territory, the only other team that has won 5 titles apart from Mumbai. Unlike last year, there will be two Mumbai-Chennai contests, also called as the El Clasico by fans.

Brief History of Mumbai
The Mumbai team was one of the eight teams that the league began with. Despite having some of the biggest names in the ranks in their early seasons like Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasuriya and Ricky Ponting among others, the team struggled to make a strong impression. It was only in 2013 when Ricky Ponting stepped down as the captain and gave the captaincy to Rohit Sharma that the team’s fortunes changed as they not only won the trophy that year but also went on to add 4 more in the next 7 years to win 5 trophies in 8 years.
All these trophies were won under the leadership of Rohit Sharma which also made him a contender for Team India captaincy. However, Sharma’s batting form declined in the subsequent years and when the team didn’t win a single trophy in three years starting from 2021, he was replaced as captain by Hardik Pandya. The move not only proved to be a hugely unpopular one with the fans but also resulted in the team enduring a poor season. The team, however, would like to put the last season behind them and come back to championship winning ways.
