About TATA IPL 2025
As the temperature soars across India in the month of March, signalling the arrival of a tough few months of summers, it also signals the onset of a festival of a different kind in the country. Just like the last edition which began closer to the end of March, the TATA IPL 2025 will begin in the second last week of March this time. The first match will see defending champions Kolkata take on Bangalore, a fixture that kick started the first ever edition of Indian Premier League. The tournament will go on for more than two months and will return on 25th May for the Final to the same ground where it starts – Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The 74 matches of TATA IPL 2025 will be played across 13 stadiums in the country, with Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan playing their home games in two stadiums. This is also the first edition of the tournament after the mega auction of 2024 which saw Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer being bought for huge sums of money. Both of them will be seen leading new franchises this year.

Winners of the previous editions of the T20 League
The first edition of the tournament was held in 2008 which was won by black horses of the tournament, Rajasthan. In the next year, the tournament moved to South Africa and the wooden spoon holders of the inaugural season, Hyderabad, bounced back in style to win their first title. In the following year, Chennai won their first ever title and became the first team to win it back to back in 2011. 2011 was also the first time that the league expanded to 10 teams, Pune and Kochi being the new entrants. In the next year, Kolkata won their first title and Mumbai followed suit in 2013. Kolkata was the winner again in 2014 while Mumbai also won their second trophy in 2015. Rajasthan and Chennai weren’t part of the subsequent two editions of the tournament and two new teams, Pune and Gujarat, became part of the league.
In 2016, Hyderabad won their maiden title and Mumbai clinched a thriller to edge out Pune to win the trophy in 2017. Chennai marked its return to the league with a trophy in 2018 while in 2019, Mumbai continued its love affair with even numbered years, winning their 4th title. Next year, they showed that they can do it even in an odd-numbered year, becoming the second team to win the title in consecutive years. Mumbai, thus, became the first team to win the title 5 times. Their closest competitor Chennai notched up their 4th title in 2021. The league was expanded again in 2022 and added a new Gujarat and Lucknow team. Gujarat repeated Rajasthan’s exploits by becoming only the second team to win a title in their first ever appearance. The following year, Gujarat once again romped their way to the final but were pipped to the pole by Chennai, who won their fifth title under MS Dhoni.
